Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to every competition promoted on majorgolfgiveaways.com. By entering a competition, whether you pay or use the free entry route, you accept these terms. Please read them before you enter, and keep a copy. You can download or print this page at any time, and we will keep every previous version available on request.

1. Who we are

Major Golf Giveaways is a trading name of PLACEHOLDER_COMPANY_NAME, a company registered in England and Wales with company number PLACEHOLDER_COMPANY_NO. Our registered office is PLACEHOLDER_REG_ADDRESS. Our VAT number is PLACEHOLDER_VAT_OR_NA.

In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean PLACEHOLDER_COMPANY_NAME. “You” means the person entering a competition. “The website” means majorgolfgiveaways.com.

You can contact us by email at PLACEHOLDER_EMAIL or by post at PLACEHOLDER_PO_BOX, PLACEHOLDER_TOWN, PLACEHOLDER_POSTCODE.

2. What these competitions are, and what they are not

Our competitions are prize competitions. They are not lotteries, they are not betting and they are not gambling under the Gambling Act 2005. Two things keep them on the right side of that line, and both apply to every competition we run:

  1. A question. Every competition includes a question requiring a degree of skill, knowledge or judgement. You must answer it correctly to be entered into the draw.
  2. A free entry route. Every competition can be entered free of charge by post, as set out in section 5. A free postal entry has exactly the same chance of winning as a paid entry, and the draw does not distinguish between the two in any way.

Because of this, we do not hold and do not require an operating licence from the Gambling Commission. The Gambling Commission does not approve, vet or endorse prize competitions, and nothing on this website should be read as suggesting otherwise.

3. Who can enter

You may enter if you are:

  • aged 18 or over on the date of entry, and
  • resident in the United Kingdom, and
  • not an employee, officer or contractor of PLACEHOLDER_COMPANY_NAME, nor a member of the immediate family or household of any of them, nor anyone else professionally connected with the administration of the competition.

We may ask you to prove your age and identity at any point, including before releasing a prize. We use age verification checks on registration and we may refuse or cancel an entry, close an account and withhold a prize if we are not satisfied that you meet these conditions. If we cancel a paid entry because you were not eligible, we will refund what you paid for that entry.

Entries made by anyone under 18 are void, and any prize is forfeited.

4. Paid entry

4.1 Buying tickets

Each competition page shows, before you pay:

  • the price of one ticket
  • the total number of tickets available
  • how many tickets have already been sold and how many are left
  • the maximum number of tickets one person may buy
  • the date and time the competition closes
  • the prize, and any cash alternative
  • the question you must answer

You choose your own ticket numbers from those still available, or ask us to allocate numbers at random. Your entry is complete when your payment has been taken, your question answer recorded and your ticket numbers confirmed. We will email you a confirmation listing your ticket numbers and the competition they relate to.

4.2 Answering the question

You must answer the competition question correctly to be entered into the draw. If you answer incorrectly your entry is not valid, it is not entered into the draw, and the amount you paid is not refundable. The correct answer is disclosed after the competition closes.

4.3 Limits on entries

Each competition has a maximum number of tickets per person, shown on the competition page. We apply that limit per person, not per account or per payment card, and we may combine entries that appear to come from the same person. Entries over the limit will be cancelled and refunded.

We may also apply overall spending limits to your account, and you may set your own. See the responsible play page.

4.4 Payment

Payment is taken at the time of entry by the methods shown at checkout. All prices include VAT where it applies. We do not accept credit card payment for competitions that include instant win prizes, and credit card payments across the site are limited to £250 per calendar month per person, in line with the Government’s voluntary code of good practice for prize draw operators.

4.5 Cancellation and refunds

Because each competition has a published closing time and draw date, entries are supplied as a service related to a leisure activity with a specific date of performance. The 14 day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 does not apply, and entries cannot be cancelled or refunded once made.

This does not affect your legal rights if we have made a mistake. We will refund you in full if:

  • we cancel a competition before the draw, for any reason
  • we cancel your entry because you were not eligible
  • your entry was duplicated or charged twice in error
  • you bought more tickets than the per person limit allows

Refunds go back to the original payment method within 14 days of us agreeing the refund.

5. Free entry by post

You can enter any competition free of charge by post. A postal entry is treated in exactly the same way as a paid entry: it goes into the same draw, with the same chance of winning.

To enter free of charge, send an unenclosed postcard, or a first class or second class letter at the ordinary rate of postage, to:

PLACEHOLDER_POSTAL_NAME
PLACEHOLDER_PO_BOX
PLACEHOLDER_TOWN
PLACEHOLDER_POSTCODE
United Kingdom

Your postcard must include, legibly:

  1. your full name
  2. your full postal address, including postcode
  3. your date of birth
  4. your email address
  5. your telephone number
  6. the name and competition number of the competition you are entering
  7. your answer to the competition question

You may submit one entry per postcard. There is no limit on the number of postcards you may send, but the same per person ticket limit that applies to paid entry applies to postal entry, counted together with any paid tickets you hold for that competition.

Please also note:

  • Your entry must arrive before the competition closes. The date of posting does not count. We recommend allowing at least five working days.
  • Entries that are incomplete, illegible, defaced, damaged, or that answer the question incorrectly, are not valid.
  • We cannot acknowledge receipt, return postcards, or confirm that a postal entry arrived in time, and we are not responsible for post that is lost, delayed or damaged in transit.
  • Bulk entries submitted together in one envelope, entries from third parties, and entries submitted by automated means or agencies are not valid.
  • We will allocate a ticket number to your entry at random from those still available and will confirm it by email if you have given us a working email address.
  • No purchase is necessary. The free entry route costs you no more than the ordinary rate of postage and is available for every competition on the website.

6. Closing, and how the draw is run

6.1 Closing

Each competition closes at the date and time published on its page. Competitions close at that time whether or not every ticket has been sold. We will not extend a competition, and we will not change or cancel a draw because ticket sales were lower than we hoped.

We may close a competition early only if every ticket has been sold, in which case the draw takes place at the originally published draw time.

6.2 The draw

Draws are made after the competition closes, ordinarily at 8pm on a Thursday, and are streamed live on our Facebook and Instagram channels. The recording remains available afterwards.

The winning ticket is selected at random using a random number generator. The generator is operated in view during the live stream. Because the winner is selected by a computer process rather than by subjective judgement, the draw is not supervised by an independent judge; we are able to demonstrate that the selection is random.

Before the draw, the full list of valid entries for that competition is exported and timestamped. We publish that list after the draw so that any entrant can confirm that their ticket number was included.

7. Winners and prizes

7.1 Notification

We will contact the winner within 24 hours of the draw, by email and by telephone using the details held on the account or given on the postal entry. We will also publish the result on our draw results page within one hour of the draw, showing the winning ticket number, the winner’s first name, the initial of their surname and their county, together with the draw recording.

By entering, you agree to us publishing your first name, surname initial and county if you win, so that entrants can see a valid award took place. If you would prefer us not to, tell us before the draw at PLACEHOLDER_EMAIL and we will publish the winning ticket number only. Objecting does not affect your entry or your prize.

7.2 Claiming

If we cannot reach a winner, we will keep trying by the contact details we hold, and the winning ticket number stays published on the draw results page. If a prize is still unclaimed 28 days after the draw we may, at our discretion, redraw or treat the prize as forfeited. We will say on the draw results page which we have done and why.

7.3 Delivery

Prizes are delivered, or a cash alternative paid, within seven days of the winner confirming their details, and in any event within 30 days of the draw. Prizes are delivered to a UK mainland address. If you are outside UK mainland we will agree delivery arrangements with you or offer the cash alternative.

7.4 Cash alternative

Every competition carries a cash alternative, and the amount is shown on the competition page. The winner may choose the prize as advertised or the cash alternative. Cash alternatives are paid by bank transfer within seven days of us receiving the winner’s details.

7.5 Substitution

Prizes are as described on the competition page. If a prize becomes unavailable for reasons outside our control, we may substitute a prize of equal or greater value, or pay the cash alternative. We will not substitute a prize of lower value.

Prizes are not transferable. Prizes do not include insurance, club membership, green fees, travel, fitting appointments beyond any expressly stated, or anything else not listed on the competition page. Where a prize is a custom fitted item, the fitting is arranged directly between the winner and the supplier, and delivery times depend on the supplier.

You are responsible for any tax arising on a prize.

7.6 Instant wins

Some competitions include instant win prizes attached to specific ticket numbers. Where they do, the competition page lists every instant win number and prize, and shows which have already been won. If you buy a ticket with an instant win number attached you win that prize immediately, and you remain in the main draw as well. Instant win prizes are subject to the same delivery and cash alternative terms as main prizes.

8. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your account details accurate and your password secure. You must not let anyone else use your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed it.

We may suspend or close an account, cancel entries and withhold prizes if we reasonably believe there has been fraud, abuse of the per person limits, use of automated entry, use of multiple accounts by one person, chargeback abuse, or a breach of these terms. Where we cancel valid paid entries in these circumstances we will refund them; where we cancel entries we reasonably believe to be fraudulent we may not.

You can close your account at any time. See the responsible play page for account suspension and self exclusion.

9. Our liability

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.

We do not exclude or limit our liability in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for any breach of your legal rights in relation to the competition or the prize.

We are not responsible for:

  • losses caused by events outside our reasonable control, including failures of the internet, the postal service, a payment provider or a prize supplier
  • entries that are lost, delayed, incomplete or not received, whether sent by post or submitted through the website
  • any interruption to a live stream, provided the draw itself takes place and is recorded

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights.

10. Changes, suspension and cancellation

We may change these terms. If we do, we will publish the new version with a new date and, where the change materially affects competitions already open, we will tell entrants by email. The terms that apply to your entry are the ones published at the time you entered.

We may cancel or suspend a competition before it closes if we have to, for example because of a supplier failure, a technical fault affecting the fairness of the draw, or a legal requirement. If we do, we will refund every paid entry in full and explain what happened on the website.

We will not cancel a draw because a competition has not sold out.

11. Complaints

If something has gone wrong, please tell us. Our complaints procedure explains how to raise it, who looks at it and how long we take.

12. Data protection

We handle your personal information as set out in our privacy policy. By entering you confirm that the details you give us are your own and are accurate.

13. General

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

If we do not insist that you do something you are required to do under these terms, or if we delay in doing so, that does not mean we have given up our right to do so later.

These terms are between you and us. No one else can enforce them.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you and we both agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts there.

14. Promoter

The promoter of every competition on this website is PLACEHOLDER_COMPANY_NAME, PLACEHOLDER_REG_ADDRESS.
